- The research-thesis track requires nine courses plus five research credits and a thesis, rather than the 13-course coursework track.
- GRE is not accepted; the statement must explain advanced/research interests and relevant preparation.

- TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo unless the primary-language-of-instruction waiver applies.
- Guarini accepts TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo; a waiver can apply when the primary language of instruction at the prior non-US institution was English.
Watchouts
- Credits here combine nine Dartmouth course credits and five research credits; Dartmouth's unit system is not semester credit hours.
- The master's does not automatically transition to PhD status and the thesis track still requires research supervision.
