Bu program sende ne görüyor?

A true probability-floor application: 3.21 clears the published 3.0 minimum, but the roughly 1,500-application MS pool, no publications and adviser-dependent research route make admission a lottery reach. Make the systems research question unusually concrete, show technical artifacts and seek recommendations that speak to academic reasoning rather than only work delivery.

Admission criteria

  • Bachelor's in science, engineering or mathematics and at least 3.0 cumulative GPA; UCSB recalculates non-US records in context.
  • The MS may be completed by thesis, faculty-supervised project, or exam; the project requires at least six units of directed research, report and public presentation.
  • The thesis requires a permanent CS faculty adviser, committee and public defense; GRE is not reviewed.
  • Extreme selectivity
  • No publications
  • Adviser availability not guaranteed

Sınavlar ve belgeler

  • GRE: not-accepted. UCSB CS says GRE is not required and the department is prohibited from reviewing submitted scores.
  • TOEFL 100/new 5.0, IELTS 7.0 or Duolingo 130 unless formally exempt.
  • UCSB CS requires TOEFL 100 under the pre-2026 scale or new-scale 5.0, IELTS 7.0, or Duolingo 130 unless formally exempt.

Watchouts

  • Admission does not guarantee a thesis/project adviser; UCSB faculty explicitly warn applicants about this distinction.
  • The 42-credit figure follows the standard MS plan structure; confirm the final plan-specific unit sheet after admission.
  • UCSB publishes roughly 1,500 MS applications per year but no current external-MS offer rate, so the personalized 3% estimate remains low-confidence.
  • Extreme selectivity
  • No publications
  • Adviser availability not guaranteed
  • MS students may apply for quarterly TA roles or faculty-available GSR work, but PhD students receive priority and MS students remain responsible for nonresident tuition.
